Water Damaged Carpet

In this project the carpet was damaged by Category 1 (clean) water.  The homeowner tried extract water using their residential wet/dry vacuum.  Unfortunately a significant amount of water remained after their efforts and when it began to emit a musty odor they contacted SERVPRO of Dubuque.  As you can see in the first photo, although the carpet felt dry, the pad underneath was saturated, indicated by the high moisture reading (red light) on our probe.

We extracted the water using our weighted extractor but when we began to pull back the carpet to remove and dispose of the pad, we found that the carpet had delaminated.  This is common if the carpet is not properly dried in a timely fashion.  If we would have extracted the water when the damage first occurred, the carpet probably could have been saved.  Due to the delamination, the carpet had to be replaced.
